On the floor she waits.
I climb on over,
Push aside the plates
From the food that we ordered.

Lying in wait,
Her back is bare.
My hand drifts
Down its length
To feel what’s there.
I count her bones,
Find the dent in her spine.
I shudder.
This warm clean skin is mine
To cover.

That night,
I painted wings on her shoulders.
Frozen hours carried on,
The night was getting colder.
I finished,
Grabbed a blanket,
Held her tight;
It felt so good,
So right
To hold her.

I had given her wings,
In hopes to lighten the load,
Make the weight of living
A weaker foe.

That had been a blatant waste of time.

You crazy fool,
How ignorant you are.
You think that you are lonely,
That those you love are far
Away from you.

You think you
Were cast away
From all the other stars.
But from here,
Down at Earth,
It’s obvious the fault’s not ours.
You see,
It’s quite clear.
The black sky sparkles from every corner.
Looking up,
I’m sure you’d see,
And realize your insanity.
